A Hospitality Program with Strong Foundations in Business Management
Hospitality is a global, borderless business. The hospitality industry is hiring talented managers. Designed with extensive industry consultation, this Bachelor of Hospitality Management degree will graduate a new generation of hospitality managers. The program combines a strong foundation in business with the industry specific knowledge and skills that are necessary to be successful leaders in this dynamic industry.
Hospitality Management Program Scope
The Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM) is an exciting new program, which captures the state of the industry as it is emerging today and into the future. Students will gain a true global perspective, so whether you’re a local or international student, you can be confident that your time spent at Acsenda will be valuable no matter where you take your career.
This new generation of hospitality leaders are high-tech and high-touch. The program emphasizes an understanding of the effects of new technologies and their impact on the way that hospitality services are
marketed, managed and delivered. Social and digital media marketing, data analytics and revenue management are some of the critical skills that you will develop through this program. Hands-on courses like Food and Beverage Management provide a great initiation for students. The course begins with a live kitchen restaurant setting, allowing you to put the theories learned in class into practice in an actual working environment. Higher-level courses such as Creating Value in The Hospitality Economy and Hospitality Business Strategy will challenge you to apply knowledge gained in all courses towards real world management problems.
As elective options, you will be able to choose courses in the specialized areas of marketing, international business, human resource management or accounting while earning credit towards a professional designation.
A unique component of the BHM program, all students will have the opportunity to participate in international, national or local internships. You will complete a supervised six-month (six credits) internship in a hospitality setting. This internship allows you to gain industry experience half way through the program and to bring that experience back into the classroom to enhance learning in your senior courses. If you have experience in the industry, you may build your internship around that experience.
Bachelor of Hospitality Management Program Length
This Bachelor of Hospitality Management is a direct-entry four-year degree with a total of 40 courses (123 credits) required to graduate. If you’ve already completed some post-secondary studies from a different post-secondary institution, you may apply for transfer credits that will shorten your time to complete. An English bridging program is available for students who need more preparation before taking on a full academic course load.
With four semesters each year you have the option to complete your degree more quickly than you would in a regular semester system. Since many of our students work part-time, the flexibility to take a break during any one of the four semesters is an advantage. Evening classes provide another option for students who may not be able to schedule all classes during the daytime.
